Minty and I met with a representative from one of the theatrical societies from the Univeristy of Bristol at The Kings Arms on Whiteladies Road. The main aim of the meeting was to inform him about the Election and Varsity projects, seeing if they were interested in getting involved, from this I was hoping to look into lighting equipment which is needed especially for the Elections Live event.
Minty pitched the project extremely well and I think he was taken back by how professional the project was, also the extent of crew and intentions for doing it that go beyond course requirements. From my perspective I expressed my interest in expanding the crew by introducing the University of Bristol, really seeing it as a great opportunity to share information and expertise.
In terms of lighting they may have something available, but he will need to enquire. I expressed interest in moving lights and any floor lamps, especially LED as they remove the risk of heat emitted. The concern was lending equipment externally from the campus, however he did recommend Enlighting Lighting (Bristol/Bath Hire) who work with their university so cheaper hire rates may be possible.
My honest feeling from the meeting was too many “I’ll have to check” and “Unfortunately”. I don’t feel confident in their university providing any equipment and think I will start to remodel ideas considering what equipment we have available. I am even uncertain to what extent they will get involved as he often referred to March as a very busy month. Nevertheless it was a great opportunity to pitch the ideas and discuss them further in depth. He is definitely on the hook and I hope to hear from them soon. In the meantime I will continue to rework my lighting plans, starting with chatting about set design amendments with Lewys as soon as possible.
